Ban wakes up early by habit, eats breakfast, and takes a walk around Ala Moana Park. He may look frail, but makes it a point to eat three meals a day, breakfast being one of the most important. The Shirokiya appearance and autograph session starts at 2:00 so we check in an hour early at 1:00. It may not seem like much, but a lot of planning is done by Shirokiya and JNP to ensure a successful event. I never want to present the same thing twice in a row. This time, it was the Kikaida Brothers with Bijinda and Waruda. When we approached Shirokiya, a line had already formed by 1:00.

広報のアナ・メイさん、玩具売り場マネージャーのジェイ、総支配人のウォルター渡辺さんに今回も気持ちよく出迎えてもらい、またよろしくお願いしますと挨拶する。今回のイベントは成功なるか？白木屋さんの期待に応えられるだろうか？毎回イベントの前はそんな気持ちになる。何時間も列に並んで待っている人がいるので、イベントを始める時間を少し早めましょうと渡辺さんから提案があり、10分前にスタートすることになった。小さなステージからドアの外まで人が並んでいる。見かけない顔も多いが、イベントの度に来てくれる顔なじみのファンも多く、いつも３世代に渡るファンの皆さんに暖かく迎えていただけて、感謝の気持ちでいっぱいになる。

We were greeted by Anna Mae, Jay, and Walter Watanabe, general manager. All were happy, but will the crowd be pleased? Will the merchandise sell? I feel this sense of responsibility each time we have these events. Walter suggested we start the show early because so many have been waiting in line for hours.  It’s also hot in Honolulu. The characters went on first, then Ban and Ikedasan. I see some new faces in the audiences, but so many are three generational repeaters! That's the nice thing about our events.

伴さんのコメント： 海外でキカイダーはたかが子供のヒーローと見下されることはまずない。どんなイベントでも待遇が良く、この作品はスポンサーからも丁重に扱ってくれる。日本もこのような目でキカイダーを見てもらえれば良いのにと思う。

Ban's Comment: Kikaida is never looked down upon because it's a children's show. Every event I have been to, the sponsors treat us well, and with courtesy. I wish the same would happen in Japan.

サイン会は３時半までの予定だったが、列がまだまだ続くので４時半まで延ばしてもらえないかと頼まれ、延長することにした。疲れたけどイベントは大成功で、みんなハッピーだった。帰国する前にお店の皆さんにご挨拶に行った時、新しく就任された白木屋の林社長も「話には聞いていたけど、キカイダーがこれほどの人気とは思わなかった」と驚いていた。日本からのファンの皆さんにもこの熱気を感じてもらえて嬉しいかぎり。

サイン会の後、いつも楽屋として使用させてもらっている社長室で、今度はお店関係者のためのサイン会がをする。ここが終わったのがなんと５時過ぎ。打ち上げパーティーが５時半スタートの予定で、ぎりぎりで会場に到着する。最初は内輪だけで30名くらいの予定だったのが、だんだん数が増えて最後には60名も集なるパーティーになり、ここでもキカイダーの人気を感じることができた。

受付にはキカイダー色である赤、黄、青の花々でまとめられた大きな生け花が飾られ、パーティ会場の中はファンと関係者で埋まっていた。一日目に登場したサムの司会で打ち上げ会が始まる。JNP側からの挨拶のあと、伴さんと池田さんからご挨拶があり、この二日に渡るイベントの為に奔走してくれた関係者をねぎらった。このパーティでのサプライズに、コスチュームを作ってくれたルナくんの奥さん、ジャッキーと２人の娘が「春くれば」に合わせたフラダンスを披露してくれ、これには驚かされた。また歌詞の内容ににフラがぴったり合っていて素晴らしかった。

The autograph session was supposed to go on till 3:30, but Walter asked that we extend to 4:30. The event ending successfully, and everyone was happy. I'm happy the fans from Japan witnessed first hand, the craze in Hawaii.

The day hasn't ended yet. There's a celebration and wrap party to follow. To make things easier, the Ala Moana Hotel was chosen. What started out as a small celebration for the 01 DVD release, ended up as a full production. A beautiful red, yellow and blue flower arrangement was placed at the reception desk, and guests started filling the room immediately. Ikeda and Ban were asked again to sign autographs for those who worked at the events over the past two days. Everyone got along fine even though they didn’t know each other because of the common bond with Kikaida. One surprise was a hula dance by Jackie Luna and her 2 daughters. They danced to "Haru Kureba." Ban was surprised, and amazed that this song could be interpreted to hula.

打ち上げ会の終了予定時間は７時だったが、あっという間にその１時間も過ぎて８時になっていた。日米のGKファン同士が友好を深めることの出来た貴重な時間だ。ハワイのパーティでは最後は乾杯の代わりに、万歳三唱で締めくくるという変な日本の習慣の名残がある。若い３０〜４０代の世代でもそれをするのだから面白い。音頭をとってくれたのは日系人だけど韓国系の銀行の会長である宮尾氏である。ユーモア溢れるスピーチのあと、「スイッチ・オン、ワン、ツー、スリー、万歳！」とみんなで声高らかに万歳。 最後は池田氏による三本締めで打ち上げが終了。皆様、本当にご苦労さまでした！

The evening ended at 8:00, 1-hour beyond the designated time. Mr. Wayne Miyao, Ch. of the Board of the Ohana Pacific Bank, gave a traditional banzai toast. In Hawaii, we love to do these banzai toasts. Then Ikedasan wrapped everything up with a 3-bon jime. We discussed it previously whether to do an ippon jime or a 3 bon Jime. In Japan, it would be ippon (one clap), but we all agreed, the Hawaii group may not recognize only one, so Ikeda decided to do the 3 bon (3 hand claps). After a rousing hand clap, the evening came to a close, and we got to close out another successful Kikaida event.
